Butter cookies are a classic treat with a rich, buttery flavor and a tender texture. Here’s a basic recipe for traditional butter cookies:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This can be done with an electric mixer or by hand with a wooden spoon.
  3. Add Egg and Vanilla:
    • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula to ensure even mixing.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
  5. Mix Dry Ingredients into Wet Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix; stop as soon as the flour is incorporated.
  1. Shape the Cookies:
    • Take small portions of the dough and roll them into balls or use cookie scoops to drop portions onto the prepared baking sheets. Space them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Flatten or Shape (Optional):
    • You can leave the cookies as balls or use a fork to flatten them slightly, creating a crisscross pattern on top.
  3. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The baking time may vary, so keep an eye on them to prevent over-baking.
  4. Cool:
    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  5. Store:
    • Once cooled, store the butter cookies in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for several days.

Feel free to get creative with these butter cookies by adding sprinkles, chocolate chips, or a dusting of powdered sugar. These cookies are perfect for any occasion and are sure to be a hit with their rich, buttery taste. Enjoy!
