HOMEMADE EGGNOG

It’s that time again and this delicious homemade eggnog recipe can be prepared quickly in just a few steps and tastes much better than store-bought. We enjoy it with a dollop of whipped cream and a pinch of cinnamon. To entertain you, we prepare two portions, one without alcohol and the other fortified with a little brandy or rum. We love serving this dish for Christmas Eve dinner and at our holiday gatherings.

WHAT IS AN EGGNOG!

Eggnog is a creamy milk drink with cream, lightly seasoned with nutmeg and sometimes other spices. They are traditionally served during the end-of-year holidays, chilled and sometimes garnished with a little rum, whiskey, bourbon or brandy.

HOW TO MAKE :

First, heat the milk, cream, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves over medium heat, stirring frequently to avoid burning on the bottom of the pan. Heat the milk mixture until hot but not boiling. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the egg yolks and sugar, adding a few tablespoons of sugar at a time and mixing well.

Now, using a ladle, add about half of the hot milk mixture to the eggs and stir. Continue adding more until most of the milk mixture is blended.Remember to beat well after each addition. Now pour the egg mixture into the pan on the stove with the remaining milk mixture. Then cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 160 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not let the mixture boil. It will be a little thick, but will get even thicker as it cools.Finally, remove from heat and add vanilla and alcohol (if available). Serve with whipped cream and garnish with a pinch of cinnamon. You can also pour it into a closed pitcher and refrigerate for a few hours before serving.
