Directions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add the warm milk and warm water. Mix until smooth. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
- Gradually add the remaining flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Cover the rolls with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the rolls with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if desired.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let the rolls cool on a wire rack before serving.
