Tiramisu Recipe

Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert known for its layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone filling. Here’s a traditional Tiramisu recipe for you:

Ingredients:

For the Coffee Soaking Liquid:

  • 1 1/2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled to room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlúa), optional
  • 2 tablespoons rum or brandy, optional
  • 2-3 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)

For the Mascarpone Filling:

  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Other Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 24-30 ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Chocolate shavings or grated chocolate (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Coffee Soaking Liquid:
    • In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee, coffee liqueur (if using), rum or brandy (if using), and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside to cool.
  2. Make the Mascarpone Filling:
    • In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and whisk continuously until the mixture is pale, thick, and slightly foamy. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
    • In a separate bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese until smooth. Add the mascarpone to the egg yolk mixture and stir until well combined. Stir in vanilla extract.
  1. Whip the Heavy Cream:
    • In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until smooth and well combined. Be careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
  2. Assemble the Tiramisu:
    • Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for about 1-2 seconds, making sure not to oversoak them. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish or a trifle dish.
  3. Layer and Repeat:
    • Spread half of the mascarpone filling over the ladyfingers. Repeat the process with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone filling.
  1. Chill:
    • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate the Tiramisu for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
  2. Dust with Cocoa Powder:
    • Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder. You can also garnish with chocolate shavings or grated chocolate if desired.
  3. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Slice and serve chilled. Tiramisu is best enjoyed cold.

This classic Tiramisu recipe is a crowd-pleaser and a perfect way to end an Italian meal. The combination of coffee, mascarpone, and cocoa creates a delightful and indulgent dessert experience.
